APPENDIX C: SCREENING QUESTIONS FOR VOLUNTEERS

- What brings you to this work? Or Why do you want to do this work?
- How did you find out about COSA?
- Do you have any previous experience with this type of work?
- Are you presently in a relationship with anyone currently under sentence?
- Is there a member of your family currently under sentence?
- Are you presently on the visitors list at an institution?
- Have you ever been the victim of a violent crime or trauma?
- If you have been the victim of a violent crime or trauma, what have you done, or what are you doing, to take care of yourself or resolve this?
- How long have you lived in this community?
- To what other organizations do you belong?
- What do you do to provide balance in your life?
- What do you understand by the term "personal boundaries"? Do you have a sense of what your boundaries are?
- Is there a particular kind of offender with whom you would not like to work?
- Volunteers will be required to attend training sessions over the next few months. Will you be able to attend training sessions?
- This project will require a commitment of several hours a week or more, especially when a new core member comes to your COSA, and perhaps a commitment of several years. Will you be able to commit to that time?
- COSA is looking for people who will be able to commit to the project for two or more years. Are you able to do that?
- Would you call yourself a team-player, or do you like to work alone?
- This project will be concerned, among other things, with confidentiality. If a core member told you that he had something important to tell you, but that you had to promise not to tell anyone, how would you respond?
- This program will be concerned, among other things, with community safety. You will need to work as part of a team that includes that includes 4 - 7 others. How do you see this in light of your role as a volunteer?
