CSC provides chaplaincy service to offenders in federal penitentiaries across Canada. Chaplains help people in a correctional setting to explore questions related to spirituality, religion and life purpose.
Chaplains work with volunteers to help offenders examine their behaviours and decisions and discover new ways of living. This can help offenders find greater wholeness and accept responsibility for their actions, which in turn contributes to their safe reintegration into our communities.
The right of offenders to practice their religion is guaranteed by the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms and other legislation. Chaplains ensure that offenders of all traditions are offered opportunities to practice their faith.
