Elizabeth Van Allen
Ms. Van Allen began her career with the Correctional Service of Canada (CSC) in 1984 as a Correctional Officer at Kingston Penitentiary. Over the next 12 years she assumed positions of increasing responsibility inside institutions - including Case Management Officer, Coordinator of Case Management, and acting Unit Manager - as well as at Ontario Regional Headquarters (RHQ). During her time at RHQ, she served as Project Officer and Executive Assistant to the Assistant Deputy Commissioner, before taking on an assignment as the Regional Administrator of Communications and Executive Services from 1996-1998.
In 1998, Ms. Van Allen moved from the Ontario Region to National Headquarters as the Project Manager for Institutional Reintegration Operations. Since that time, she has gained a depth of experience at CSC and Public Safety Canada in various director positions, including Correspondence and Ministerial Liaison, Community Reintegration Operations, Ministerial and Executive Services, and Operational Initiatives.
She has also served as the Executive Director of the Executive Secretariat in the Commissioner's Office, and the Associate Assistant Commissioner of Human Resources Management. Elizabeth Van Allen was appointed as the Deputy Commissioner for Women on October 27, 2008. She held that position until January 11, 2010 when she was appointed Assistant Commissioner, Public Affairs and Parliamentary Relations (now Communications and Engagement Sector).
Ms. Van Allen holds a BA in Sociology from Queen's University in Kingston, Ontario.
