Carole Johnson

Carole Johnson was appointed Director and General Counsel of Legal Services, on January 22, 2007.

Beginning her career with the Department of Justice in 1983 as legal counsel with the Human Rights Law Section, Ms. Johnson also worked as a policy analyst in the Law Enforcement Division at the Solicitor General Secretariat. In 1991, after holding the position of Executive Assistant for the Deputy Minister of Justice and Deputy Attorney General, John C. Tait, she undertook civil litigation as senior counsel in the Quebec Justice Regional Office where she appeared before a variety of trial and appellate courts including the Supreme Court of Canada.

In 1998, Ms. Johnson joined the Competition Law Division where she was involved in civil litigation and criminal prosecutions, while also co-chairing the Legal Services re-engineering initiative with the Competition Bureau.

From 2002 to 2007, Ms. Johnson was Deputy Director and General Counsel at Health Canada Legal Services. She was also responsible for establishing the Francophonie Unit at the Department of Justice.

Carole Johnson holds a law degree from the University of Montreal and is member of the Quebec Bar.
