The mandate of Foreign Affairs, Trade and Development Canada is to manage Canada's diplomatic and consular relations, to encourage the country's international trade and to lead Canada’s international development and humanitarian assistance.

The Centre for Intercultural Learning helps individuals and organizations develop the intercultural competencies essential for international operational success. Areas of focus are: the pace of adaptation to culture, the enhancement of performance, and the management of culture shock.

The Human Security Program is one of DFAIT's proactive mechanisms for addressing the human dimensions of globalisation. The Program invests strategically in initiatives that strengthen the ability of the global community to respond to threats to Human Security and support peaceful governance. Since its inception in June 2000, the Human Security Program has supported over 300 projects on 5 different continents.
