About the Institution

Riverbend Institution is a minimum security facility located in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan. It shares a property with Saskatchewan Penitentiary. The institution is based on a residential design model where offender accommodations are residential houses, including two Aboriginal Pathways healing units.

As part of CSC's efforts to encourage inmates to become law-abiding citizens, CSC offers various national correctional programs.

Healing Lodges offer services and programs that reflect Aboriginal culture in a space that incorporates Aboriginal peoples' traditions and beliefs.

In a Healing Lodge, the needs of Aboriginal offenders serving federal sentences are addressed through Aboriginal teachings and ceremonies, contact with Elders, and culturally relevant programming.

Work is now underway to increase capacity at the Institution. Construction of one new 50-bed living unit is expected to be complete in 2013-2014. Delivery of correctional and rehabilitation programs is also being expanded.
