About the Institution

Saskatchewan Penitentiary is in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan.  It is a maximum, medium and minimum security facility.

There are four medium security units and two maximum security units.

In the minimum unit, inmates live in residential houses.  Currently construction is underway on one new 50 bed minimum living unit.  Work is due to be completed in 2014-2015.

There are also two Aboriginal Pathways healing units.  These units support the journey of Aboriginal offenders who have demonstrated a commitment to healing by engaging in work with Elders and Spiritual Advisors in an environment and interventions dedicated to following a traditional healing path. They help reinforce a more intensive healing approach to corrections and support offenders in gradually moving to lower institutional security levels, including healing lodges.

At the same time Saskatchewan Penitentiary is expanding the correctional and rehabilitation programs that they offer.
