About the Institution

Stony Mountain Institution is in Stony Mountain, Manitoba. It is a clustered site, housing maximum, medium and minimum security inmates.

In the medium unit, there are five different living units.  These offer various levels of supervision. One is a healing unit for Aboriginal inmates (Ni-Miikana).

Stony Mountain promotes a healing process based on Aboriginal culture. This contributes to the successful reintegration of Aboriginal offenders.

In the minimum unit, inmates live in residential houses. Currently construction is underway on a 50 bed minimum unit to be completed in 2014-2015. The new 96-bed maximum unit was completed in September 2014.

At the same time, Stony Mountain is expanding the correctional and rehabilitation programs that they offer.
