Death of Inmate at Springhill Institution

Springhill, Nova Scotia; January 16, 2012 - On January 16, 2012, inmate Emile Vienneau from Springhill Institution – Regional Reception Centre died of apparent natural causes while in custody.

At the time of his death, Emile Vienneau was 65 years old and was serving a 5-year sentence. His sentence had commenced on December 22, 2011.

Next of kin have been notified.

As in all cases where an individual dies while in custody, the police and coroner have been notified. In addition, Correctional Service Canada will review the circumstances surrounding the death.
