Death of Inmate at Atlantic Institution

Renous, New Brunswick, July 9, 2012 - On July 7, 2012, inmate John Cousins from Atlantic Institution died of natural causes following a lengthy illness at the Moncton Hospital, in Moncton, New Brunswick.

At the time of his death, Mr. Cousins, 63, was serving a life sentence for Second degree murder and Armed Robbery.  His sentence had commenced on March 29, 1999.

Next of kin have been notified.

As in all cases where an individual dies while in custody, the police and coroner have been notified. In addition, the Correctional Service of Canada will review the circumstances surrounding the incident.
