Escape and recapture from Westmorland Institution
Dorchester, New Brunswick, August 27, 2012 - On Saturday, August 25, 2012, at approximately 2:30am, inmates Brendan Kyle Carter, Maurice Joseph Chevarie, Wayne Douglas Oakes and William David Sturgess were apprehended by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police shortly after escaping from Westmorland Institution. They have now been transferred to a medium security facility.
Brendan Kyle Carter is serving a 5 year sentence for Assault, Use of Force, Utter Threats to Cause Death, Fail to Comply with Probation Order, Possession of Firearm, Cause Bodily Harm by Criminal Negligence, Public Mischief.
Maurice Joseph Chevarie is serving a 2 year 5 month and 29 day sentence for 2 convictions of Utter a Forged Document, Fraud Under, Possession of Property Obtained by Crime, Fail to Attend.
Wayne Douglas Oakes is serving a 4 year sentence for Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking, Break Enter and Commit, Fail to Comply, and Breach of Probation.
William David Sturgess is serving a 4 year and 9 month sentence for Theft Over, Break Enter and Commit, Assault with Intent to Commit Robbery, Disguise with Intent, Robbery, Arson - Damage to Property.
CSC and Westmorland Institution will be conducting a joint investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
