Death of Inmate at Westmorland Institution
Dorchester, New Brunswick, March 22, 2013 – On March 20, 2013, inmate John Allain from Westmorland Institution was found unresponsive in his living unit bedroom. Correctional Officers immediately performed CPR and an ambulance was called.
Emergency Services were notified and arrived at the institution, but were unable to revive the offender.
At the time of his death, Mr. John Allain, 70, was serving a 5-year sentence for Indecent Assault on a female, and Sexual Interference with a female under the age of 14. His sentence had commenced on March 6, 2012.
Next of kin have been notified.
As in all cases where an individual dies while in custody, the police and coroner have been notified. In addition, Correctional Service Canada will review the circumstances surrounding the incident.
