Death of Inmate at Leclerc Institution
Laval, Quebec, February 7, 2012 – On February 5, 2012, at 3:00 p.m., inmate Mario Lévesque from Leclerc Institution died of apparent natural causes at the Archambault Institution hospital located in Sainte-Anne-des-Plaines.
At the time of his death, Mr. Lévesque, 53, was serving a 12 year sentence for robbery and armed robbery, aggravated assault, possession of a weapon contrary to a prohibition order and pointing a firearm. His sentence had commenced on May 11, 2005.
Next of kin have been notified.
As in all cases where an individual dies while in custody, the police and coroner have been notified. In addition, the Correctional Service of Canada will review the circumstances surrounding the incident.
