Death of Inmate at the Federal Training Center

Laval, Quebec, February 10, 2012 –On February 10, 2012, at approximately 1:15 p.m., Jean-Guy Martel, an inmate from the Federal Training Center, died of apparent natural causes at the Archambault Institution hospital.
 
At the time of his death, Mr. Martel, 75, was serving a life sentence for second degree murder. His sentence had commenced on June 17, 1994.

Next of kin have been notified.

As in all cases where an individual dies while in custody, the police and coroner have been notified. In addition, the Correctional Service of Canada will review the circumstances surrounding the incident.
