Seizure of Unauthorized Substance at Donnacona Institution

Laval, Québec, July 11, 2012 – At approximately 2 p.m. on July 4, 2012, correctional officers intercepted an inmate who was attempting to introduce unauthorized substances into Donnacona Institution, a maximum security federal penitentiary located in Donnacona.

Upon inspection, a total of 243.4 grams of tobacco was seized. The estimated institutional value of the seizure is $6,000.

CSC imposed a total smoking ban in all federal correctional facilities through a phased-approach on May 5, 2008.

CSC is strengthening measures to prevent unauthorized substance from entering institutions, in order to help ensure a safe and secure environment for everyone.
