Death of Inmate at the Federal Training Center

Laval, Quebec, October 1, 2012 – On September 30, 2012, at approximately 5:00 a.m., inmate Gilles Martin, from the Federal Training Center, a minimum-security institution, died of apparent natural causes at the Cité-de-la-Santé Hospital.

At the time of his death, Mr. Martin, 67 years old, was serving an indeterminate sentence for murder, armed robbery and forcible confinement. His sentence had commenced on November 14, 1972. 

As in all cases where an individual dies while in custody, the police and coroner have been notified. In addition, the Correctional Service of Canada will review the circumstances surrounding the incident.
