Death of Inmate at Regional Mental Health Center

Ste-Anne-des-Plaines, Quebec, October 17, 2012 – On October 16, 2012, inmate Dominic Blanchette from the Regional Mental Health Centre was found unresponsive in his cell. Correctional Officers immediately performed CPR and an ambulance was called. 

The offender was taken to the Cité de la Santé Hospital where he was pronounced dead at approximately 3:10 p.m..

At the time of his death, Mr. Blanchette, 34, was serving a 9 year, 2 month and 22 day sentence for Mischief, Uttering Threats, Substance Traffic, Assault, Theft and Unlawful Presence in a House. His sentence had commenced on February 6, 2003.

Next of kin have been notified.

As in all cases where an individual dies while in custody, the police and coroner have been notified. In addition, the Correctional Service of Canada will review the circumstances surrounding the incident.
