Recapture of Inmate from Beaver Creek Institution

Gravenhurst, Ontario, January 4, 2012  - On December 23, 2011 Mark David Maxwell Whyte was discovered missing at the 11:45 am count at Beaver Creek Institution. The Correctional Service of Canada (CSC) immediately contacted the Ontario Provincial Police Bracebridge Detachment and a warrant was issued for his arrest.

At approximately 7:30 pm on January 3, 2012, Whyte was apprehended without incident by the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Repeat Offender Parole Enforcement (ROPE) Squad in Barrie. The offender has since been transferred to a higher security institution.

CSC will be conducting a joint investigation with the OPP into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
