Seizure of Drugs and Unauthorized Items at Warkworth Institution
Warkworth, Ontario, March 16, 2012 – At approximately 1:30 p.m. on March 15, 2012, as a result of the vigilance of correctional staff, a package containing cocaine, marijuana, oxycontin, and tobacco was intercepted from a visitor at Warkworth Institution, a medium security federal penitentiary.
The total institutional value of this seizure is estimated at approximately $4,442.00. A visitor was arrested by the Ontario Provincial Police and will face criminal charges.
The Correctional Service of Canada (CSC) has a number of tools available that are consistently used in efforts to control the flow of drugs into our institutions. These tools include ion scanners and drug dogs to search buildings, offenders and visitors.
CSC is strengthening measures to prevent contraband from entering its institutions in order to help ensure a safe and secure environment for everyone. CSC also works in partnership with the police to take action against those who attempt to have contraband brought into correctional institutions.
