Inmate Assault at Millhaven Institution
Bath, Ontario, March 27, 2012 – At approximately 8:30 p.m., on Monday, March 26, 2012, an inmate was assaulted at Millhaven Institution, a maximum security federal penitentiary. Correctional staff verbally intervened, and then used OC munitions and firearms, resulting in the end of the altercation.
The victim and the aggressor were immediately assessed by staff and taken to an outside hospital. They have now returned to the institution in stable condition. No staff or other inmates were injured during this incident.
The Correctional Service of Canada (CSC) and Millhaven Institution will be conducting a joint investigation into the incident and are working with the OPP Penitentiary Squad.
Ensuring the safety and security of institutions, staff, and the public remains the highest priority in the operations of the federal correctional system.
