Assault on Staff at Collins Bay Institution

Kingston, Ontario, April 20th, 2012 – On April 20, 2012, at approximately 1:40 p.m., two Correctional Officers were physically assaulted by an inmate. Correctional Officers monitoring the area immediately responded securing the inmate.  On site medical staff provided initial aid to the officers who were then transferred in stable condition to a local hospital for further assessment. 

The Ontario Provincial Police Penitentiary squad and Correctional Service of Canada (CSC) are investigating the incident. Charges are pending.

The institution is operating under a modified routine. 

Ensuring the safety and security of institutions, staff, and public remains the highest priority in the operations of the federal correctional system.
