Death Of Inmate at Kingston Penitentiary

Kingston, Ontario, May 28, 2012 – On Monday May 28, 2012, inmate Tommy Nuvaqiq from Kingston Penitentiary was found unresponsive in his cell. Correctional Officers immediately performed CPR and an ambulance was called. 

The offender was taken to the Kingston General Hospital where he was pronounced dead at approximately 12:40 am.

At the time of his death, Mr. Navaqiq, 30, was serving a 13 year-sentence for Sexual Assault and Break and Enter. His sentence had commenced on March 13, 2009. 

Next of kin have been notified.

As in all cases where an individual dies while in custody, the police and coroner have been notified. In addition, the Correctional Service of Canada will review the circumstances surrounding the incident.
