Death of Inmate from Grand Valley Institution for Women

Kitchener, Ontario, July 31, 2012 –On July 29, 2012, inmate Donna Turner from Grand Valley Institution for Women died of natural causes at Cambridge Memorial Hospital in Cambridge, Ontario. She had been at this outside hospital for treatment following an extended illness.

At the time of her death, Ms. Turner, 62, was serving a Life sentence for Second Degree Murder and Manslaughter.  Her sentence had commenced on December 18, 1987.

Next of kin have been notified.

As in all cases where an individual dies while in custody, the police and coroner have been notified. In addition, the Correctional Service of Canada will review the circumstances surrounding the incident.
