Frontenac Institution Inmate Apprehended With Contraband

Kingston, Ontario, January 14, 2013 – On Thursday, January 10, 2013, as a result of the vigilance of correctional staff, inmate John HELLAS was apprehended on the outer edge of Frontenac Institution property.

The inmate was found to be in possession of 26 packages of cigarettes, two lighters, and $225 of currency with an estimated institutional value of $1300.00. The inmate has been placed in higher security.

HELLAS is currently serving a 3 year sentence for unauthorized use of credit card data, identity theft, possession of property obtained by crime, and other fraud related offences.

The police were notified and the institution is investigating.

CSC is strengthening measures to prevent contraband from entering its institutions in order to help ensure a safe and secure environment for everyone. CSC also works in partnership with the police to take action against those who attempt to have contraband brought into correctional institutions.

CSC has set up a telephone Tip-Line at all federal institutions to provide an additional source for receiving information about activities that relate to the safety and security of CSC institutions. These activities may be related to drug use or trafficking that may threaten the safety and security of people visiting, working at, or housed at a CSC facility.
