Death of Inmate at Regional Treatment Centre
Kingston, Ontario, Tuesday February 26, 2013 – On Tuesday February 26, 2013, inmate Daniel Thomas from the Regional Treatment Centre died of apparent natural causes.
At the time of his death, Mr. Thomas, 69, was serving a sentence of 11 years, 3 months for assault, assault causing bodily harm and assault with a weapon. His sentence had commenced on March 17, 2006.
Next of kin have been notified.
As in all cases where an individual dies while in custody, the police and coroner have been notified. In addition, the Correctional Service of Canada will review the circumstances surrounding the incident.
