Inmate Assault at Warkworth Institution

Campbellford, Ontario, March 5, 2013 – At approximately 1:15 p.m., on Saturday, March 2, 2013, at Warkworth Institution (a medium-security federal penitentiary) an inmate was found to have been assaulted. The injured inmate was immediately assessed by staff and escorted for treatment at outside hospital.

The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) and Correctional Service Canada (CSC) are investigating the incident.

Visits will remain normal at this time.

In order to improve its practices to prevent and reduce future incidents, CSC will continue to work in an effort to review the circumstances surrounding the incident and take action where necessary
