Death of inmate at Pittsburgh Institution
Joyceville, Ontario, March 26, 2013 – On Monday evening, March 25, 2013, inmate John Sheppard from Pittsburgh Institution died of natural causes at the Kingston Penitentiary Regional Hospital following a lengthy illness.
At the time of his death, Mr. Sheppard, 61, was serving a four year, eight month sentence for sexual intercourse with a female under 14. His sentence had commenced on November 04, 2008.
Next of kin have been notified.
As in all cases where an individual dies while in custody, the police and coroner have been notified. In addition, the Correctional Service of Canada will review the circumstances surrounding the incident.
