Suspicious Package at Warkworth Institution

Warkworth, Ontario, April 25, 2013 – At approximately 1315hrs on April 25, 2013, institutional staff at Warkworth Institution observed an unidentified person placing a suspicious package outside the institutional perimeter.

CSC took immediate steps to ensure the safety of staff, inmates and the community. The Ontario Provincial Police and local fire department were on site and CSC is working with our community safety partners to ensure the safety and security of the institution. The situation was resolved at 5:30 p.m. when it was determined that the suspicious package was harmless. 

CSC takes this incident very seriously.

The institution has not been locked down and CSC’s incident management procedures were implemented.
