Death of Stony Mountain Institution Inmate

Stony Mountain, Manitoba, June, 26, 2012 –On June 25, 2012, inmate Cosmo Valente from Stony Mountain Institution died at a hospital in Winnipeg.

At the time of his death, Mr. Valente, 69, was serving a five year, eight month sentence for Counselling Indictable Offence Not Committed. His sentence had commenced on September 14, 2009.

Next of kin have been notified.

As in all cases where an individual dies while in custody, the police and coroner have been notified. In addition, the Correctional Service of Canada will review the circumstances surrounding the incident.
