Death of Inmate at Matsqui Institution

Abbotsford, British Columbia, March 26, 2012 – On March 25, 2012 at approximately 10:00am, inmate Kevin Neil Cuthbertson from Matsqui Institution was found unresponsive in his cell. Correctional Officers immediately performed CPR and an ambulance was called.

Emergency Services were notified and arrived at the institution, but were unable to revive the offender.

At the time of his death, Mr Cuthbertson, a 32-year-old second time federal offender, was serving a three year, two month sentence for Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm and Possession of a Weapon Contrary to Prohibition Order.

Next of kin have been notified.

As in all cases where an individual dies while in custody, the police and coroner have been notified. In addition, the Correctional Service of Canada will review the circumstances surrounding the incident.
