Death of an Inmate at the Regional Treatment Centre (Pacific)

Abbotsford, British Columbia, April 30, 2012 – On April 27, 2012, inmate James Vincent Gumbleton from the Regional Treatment Centre (Pacific) died of apparent natural causes following a lengthy illness.

At the time of his death, Mr. Gumbleton, 48 years old, was serving a four year, six month, sentence for Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Under, Fail to Comply with Condition of Undertaking/Recognizance, Operate Motor Vehicle while Disqualified (x2), Failure to Stop at Accident, Assault with a Weapon, Fail to Comply with Probation Order, and Robbery – Use Firearm.  His sentence had commenced on December 17, 2009.

Next of kin have been notified.

As in all cases where an individual dies while in custody, the police and coroner have been notified. In addition, the Correctional Service of Canada will review the circumstances surrounding the incident.
