Death of an Inmate at Mountain Institution
Agassiz, British Columbia, August 24, 2012 – On August 21, 2012, inmate Kyle Darren Tombaugh at Mountain Institution, a federal medium security facility, was found unresponsive in his cell. Correctional Officers immediately performed CPR and an ambulance was called.
The offender was taken to the Chilliwack General Hospital. He was pronounced deceased on August 24, 2012.
At the time of his death, Mr. Tombaugh, 35, was serving a sentence of four years and twenty-one days for Theft Under, Assault with a Weapon, and Attempt of an Indictable Offence. His sentence commenced on November 14, 2011.
Next-of-kin have been notified.
As in all cases where an individual dies while in custody, the police and coroner have been notified. In addition, the Correctional Service of Canada will review the circumstances surrounding the incident.
