Death of Inmate at Ferndale Institution

Mission, British Columbia, November 15, 2012 – On November 10, 2012, inmate Gordon Pawliw from Ferndale Institution died of apparent natural causes at Abbotsford Regional Hospital.

At the time of his death, Mr. Pawliw was a 65 year-old third time federal offender serving a Life sentence for First Degree Murder and Conspire to Commit an Indictable Offence.  His sentence commenced on April 26, 1985.

Next of kin have been notified.

As in all cases where an individual dies while in custody, the police and coroner have been notified.  In addition, the Correctional Service of Canada will review the circumstances surrounding the incident.
