Change of Command Ceremony at Mountain Institution

Agassiz, British Columbia, February 28, 2013 – The Correctional Service of Canada (CSC) held a Change of Command Ceremony at Mountain Institution. This occasion marked the change in command from the outgoing Warden, Bill Thompson, to the incoming Warden, Terry Hackett.

This ceremony highlights the importance of being the leader of an institution and the responsibilities associated with taking on the role of Warden. It provides CSC with a valuable opportunity to gather together and witness the passing of responsibility for the safety and security of staff, offenders and the community from one person to another.

“In many ways this is a symbolic event, but it’s important to note that for the newly appointed leader, it represents their pledge to ensure that every decision they make respects CSC’s Mission, the rule of law, and the rights of staff and inmates,” said CSC Commissioner Don Head. “Every change in leadership brings new thinking and new opportunities for growth, and I am very pleased to be here to help commemorate this event” added Mr. Head.

The Change of Command Ceremony is an important tradition for CSC that allows staff to witness the passing of responsibility from one leader to another as part of its focus on pride and tradition. It is also an opportunity for the organization to celebrate its traditions and reaffirms the incoming leader’s commitment to enhancing public safety results for Canadians.
