Escape from Ferndale Institution

Mission, British Columbia, March 20, 2013 – On March 19, 2013, inmates James John Jackson and William Joseph Ballan were discovered missing during the Ferndale Institution 23:00 hours count.  William Joseph Ballan was taken into custody in the near vicinity and returned to federal custody without incident. A warrant has been issued for James John Jackson and he remains unlawfully at large.

James John Jackson, 31 years old, is described as 180 cm (5’11”) in height and 98 kg (216 lbs) in weight; he has blue eyes and brown hair.  He has the initials “AJ” tattooed on his left upper arm and the name “RACHAEL” tattooed on his right forearm.  Jackson is a first-time federal offender currently serving an aggregate sentence of 6 years 1 month for Perjury, Possession of a Schedule I/II Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking (X2), Escape Lawful Custody, Obstruct Public/Peace Officer, and Unlawfully at Large.

Anyone with information on the whereabouts of James John Jackson is asked to contact police.

CSC and Ferndale Institution will be conducting a joint investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident and are working closely with the RCMP to locate this offender as quickly as possible.

CSC has given the police all available information to assist in the inmate’s apprehension.
