FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

CORRECTIONAL SERVICE OF CANADA TO HOST MEDIA DAYS

Ottawa, November 22, 2004 - The Correctional Service of Canada (CSC) is hosting Media Day events this week in five federal penitentiaries, one in each of its five regions.

Media representatives are encouraged to attend to see firsthand the day-to-day operations of a federal correctional institution. Facility tours and information sessions will be offered to interested journalists.

Dates, Times and Locations:
(Please note, advance registration is required.)

  • Pacific Institution/Regional Treatment Centre (Abbotsford, B.C.) at 10:00 a.m. on November 23;
  • Springhill Institution (Springhill, Nova Scotia) at 9:00 a.m. on November 23;
  • Drummond Institution (Drummondville, Quebec) at 9:30 a.m. on November 23;
  • Collins Bay Institution (Kingston, Ontario) at 1:00 p.m. on November 24; and
  • Stony Mountain Institution (Winnipeg, Manitoba) at 9:30 a.m. on November 25.

Media days provide unique opportunities for journalists to get an appreciation of the valuable contribution correctional employees make on a daily basis to public safety. Further Media Day events will be held at various correctional facilities in other locations in the coming months.
