FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

SPRINGHILL, NS, April 6, 2004 - At approximately 7:55 a.m., on Tuesday, April 6, 2004 an inmate was found unresponsive in his cell.

Institutional health care staff were immediately called to the cell. The inmate was pronounced dead at 8:28 a.m., by the Medical Examiner. The local Police have been notified and are conducting an investigation.

The inmate has been identified as Robert Peddle who was serving a 2 year sentence which commenced January 2004.

Correctional Service of Canada will also conduct an investigation into the circumstances of this incident.

Springhill is a medium-security institution located in the town of Springhill, Nova Scotia.
