FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

DORCHESTER, NB, April 13, 2004 - At approximately 9:30 p.m. on Saturday evening, April 10th, while conducting rounds of the institution's recreational facilities, correctional officers found an inmate who had been assaulted in the gymnasium weight room. The inmate was taken to the institutional Health Care Center for examination and transferred to the outside hospital for treatment. The injuries were not life threatening and the inmate is in stable condition.

The RCMP are investigating this incident. In addition, CSC will conduct its own internal investigation.
