FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
DORCHESTER, NB, April 29, 2004 - The Atlantic Region members of the Quebec Police Dog Handlers Association in collaboration with the Correctional Service of Canada will be hosting the Associations annual seminar from August 29th to September 3rd, 2004. The Memramcook Valley will be the site of this year's event.
The Quebec Police Dog Handlers Association is a non-profit organization founded in October 2000. The main focus is to unite Handler/Dog teams from various law enforcement agencies in order to share and perfect their knowledge in matters of aggression, tracking, as well as detection of different substances related to their work.
It is expected that 50-60 handlers and dogs will participate in this annual seminar. Representation will come from such organizations as the Correctional Service of Canada, Canadian Food Inspection Agency, Canada Customs and Revenue Agency, Quebec Department of Natural Resources, New Brunswick Department of Natural Resources, and numerous police forces from Quebec and the Atlantic Provinces.
During the annual seminar, members of the media and public will be invited to see demonstrations on how the handlers and dogs work together on such tasks as drug detection and tracking. In addition, the organizing committee is looking for businesses that would be interested in being used for search sites whether it be drug detection or tracking. In the coming months, the organizing committee will be canvassing businesses in the Memramcook Valley, Sackville, Dorchester as well as the Greater Moncton area on this issue.
