FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

DORCHESTER, N.B., July 5, 2004 - At approximately 9:20 PM on Sunday evening, July 4^th, an inmate presented himself to institutional Health Care. It was determined that he had been badly beaten about the head and had multiple stab wounds in the back area. The inmate was taken to outside hospital for treatment. The injuries were not life threatening and the inmate is in stable condition.

The institution is current locked down and an exceptional search is underway to look for weapons.

The RCMP are investigating this incident. In addition, CSC will conduct its own internal investigation.

Dorchester Penitentiary is a medium-security institution located in the village of Dorchester, in South-Eastern New Brunswick.
