FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

SPRINGHILL, N.S., August 23, 2004 - Shortly before 18:00, on Monday, August 23, 2004, members of the Codiac RCMP apprehended inmate Michael Anthony Bland at the bus terminal in Moncton, New Brunswick.

He was arrested without resistance.

This inmate will now be returned to the Springhill Institution, in Springhill, Nova Scotia.

Michael Anthony Bland, 43 year-old native from Halifax, absconded, on Sunday, August 22, 2004, at approximately 16:30, while on an escorted temporary absence in Halifax.

An inmate from the medium security Springhill Institution, Mr. Bland is currently serving a 26 year sentence that started on 1994-03-22, for armed robbery, possession of a weapon and disguise.

Correctional Service Canada will conduct a full review of the circumstances leading to this incident.
