LOCKDOWN AT DORCHESTER PENITENTIARY - UPDATE

DORCHESTER, NB, June 14, 2005 - The Dorchester Penitentiary remains in lockdown as the Correctional Service of Canada is searching Units 1, 2, 3 and 4 as well as the Shops and Programs area.

The search is anticipated to end today. Inmates will be served their evening supper in their cells. They will be allowed one-hour recreation outside and recreation on the range for three hours this evening.

Regular visits and Private Family Visits are expected to resume tomorrow, Wednesday , June 15, 2005.

The lockdown began after a number of assaults that took place over a 24 hour period beginning around supper time last Friday, June 10, 2005.

The lockdown will remain in effect until it is determined that it is safe to return to normal operations.

CSC has identified a number of inmates involved in the incidents and they are no longer in the general population.

Dorchester Penitentiary is a medium-security institution located in the village of Dorchester, in South-Eastern New Brunswick.
