RENOUS, NB, June 14, 2005 - Correctional Service Canada is currently reviewing all circumstances leading up to an incident that happened last night at the maximum security Atlantic Institution, in Renous, New Brunswick.
The disturbance, that began shortly before 22:30 on Monday, June 13, 2005, ended without any use of force around 05:10, in the morning of Tuesday, June 14, 2005.
All inmates were in their cells during the entire incident, no staff or inmate was injured and damages are estimated roughly at $500.00.
This incident started when some inmates from unit 1, ranges C and D, lighted fires and broke out cell windows.
At the same time in unit 3, range B, two inmates burnt out their cell window.
The Institutional Emergency Response Team (IERT) was called on site and the RCMP was notified.
Atlantic Institution houses 209 inmates. Approximately 20 are believed involved in the incident.
