FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

RENOUS, NB, August 19, 2005 - Correctional Service Canada is currently reviewing all circumstances leading up to an incident that happened yesterday at Atlantic Institution.

The disturbance, that began shortly after 13:30, on Thursday, August 18, 2005, ended without injuries and with minimal damages soon after the Institutional Emergency Response Team arrived on the scene, and all inmates got back to their cell before midnight.

A few of the 62 inmates from Unit 1, who had refused to return to their cells, lit small fires.

The RCMP was notified.

Unit 1 is currently on lockdown status. The rest of the inmates who were not involved have returned to normal routine.

Atlantic institution is a maximum security penitentiary located in Renous, New Brunswick.
