FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
DORCHESTER, NB, October 3, 2005 - Correctional Service Canada and its partners, the Village of Dorchester and the Keillor House Museum, are inviting Media representatives to take part, on Wednesday, October 12, 2005, in various events commemorating the 125th anniversary of Dorchester Penitentiary.
From the day it received its first inmates, on July 14 1880, the mandate and the operations of Dorchester Penitentiary (the second oldest in the country) progressed with the evolution of the correctional system in Canada.
On October 12, 2005, starting at 08:00, media representatives will be offered a tour of various CSC facilities, an overview of the history of Corrections in Canada, as well as an outlook at current and future initiatives.
The day will start with the unveiling of the official logo of the 125th anniversary, followed by a tour of Dorchester Penitentiary, Shepody Healing Centre, Westmorland Institution, Corcan facilities and other sites of interest.
Since a security clearance is needed for everyone entering a CSC institution, media representatives planning to attend should forward their name, date and place of birth, no later than 16:00, on Thursday, October 6th, 2005, to the attention of:
Ed Muise
Deputy Warden
