FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

DORCHESTER, NB, October 4, 2005 - At approximately 1800 hours, staff in one of the housing units found an inmate who had been seriously assaulted. Upon further examination, it became evident that he been stabbed. The inmate was treated at the institutional health care centre and transported by ambulance to outside hospital. His condition is listed as stable.

Police have been contacted and they are investigating the incident.

CSC will be conducting an investigation into the circumstances surrounding this incident.

Dorchester Penitentiary is a medium security institution located in Dorchester, New Brunswick.
