FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

RENOUS, NB, December 18, 2005 - Correctional Service Canada is currently reviewing all circumstances leading up to an incident that happened yesterday at Atlantic Institution.

At approximately 18:00 on Saturday December 17th 2005, 59 inmates from Unit 1 at Atlantic Institution refused to return to their cell.

The disturbance ended without injuries or significant damages at approximately 02:50, when inmates were secured in their cell.

59 inmates from Unit 1 are currently on lockdown status. The rest of the institution has returned to normal routine.

Atlantic Institution is a maximum security institution located in Renous, New Brunswick.

Atlantic is a maximum-security institution located in the village of Renous, New Brunswick, which currently houses 217 inmates.
