FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

DORCHESTER, NB, December 27, 2005 - At approximately 1100 hours on Monday December 26 2005, a lockdown was imposed at Dorchester Penitentiary. Information was received to indicate that there was contraband within the institution that could pose a risk to the safety of staff, inmates and to the overall security of the penitentiary. A search of the institution is currently underway in an effort to locate the contraband.

The lockdown will remain in effect in order to permit staff to search. In addition, it will permit time for a thorough assessment of the situation to be conducted.

Dorchester Penitentiary is a medium security institution located in the Village of Dorchester in southeastern New Brunswick.
