FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

DORCHESTER, NB, December 29, 2005 - The lockdown at Dorchester Penitentiary is still in effect. It began at approximately 1100 hours on Monday December 26, 2005. Staff continues to search diligently for contraband within the institution that could pose a risk to the safety of staff, inmates and to the overall security of the penitentiary.

At this point, no contraband has been found.

Inmates are cooperating fully with the process. The mood of the institution is calm.

The lockdown will remain in effect in order to permit staff to search. In addition, it will permit time for a thorough assessment of the situation to be conducted.

Dorchester Penitentiary is a medium security institution located in the Village of Dorchester in southeastern New Brunswick.
