FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

ESCAPES FROM WESTMORLAND INSTITUTION - UPDATE 2

DORCHESTER, NB, July 12, 2006 - Offender James Walter Lahey, who had escaped from Westmorland Institution, in the early morning of Saturday July 8, 2006, has turned himself in to the RCMP in Moncton, in the evening of Tuesday, July 11, 2006.

James Walter Lahey has already been transferred from police custody to a medium security institution.

He was sentenced on April 29, 1998, to an indeterminate sentence for second degree murder.

James Walter Lahey and William Miller were noticed missing from the minimum security Westmorland Institution at 06:35, am, on Saturday, July 8, 2006.

Walter Miller was apprehended by police on Monday, July 10, 2006.

The Correctional Service of Canada will conduct a review of all the circumstances surrounding this incident.
